Dear Sisters and Brothers,

兄弟姉妹のみなさん
 

This 66th anniversary of the Hiroshima and Nagasaki Atomic bomb memorial is like no other.  Sadness grips my heart as I remember that the "third atomic bombing" or nuclear disaster of the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear plant this past year has once again destroyed life in Japan. The people of Japan- the children, parents, workers, the most vulnerable and innocent have once again experienced unimaginable and horrifying injustice.  But you are not silent and are rising up in anger and unity.

ヒロシマ、ナガサキへの原爆投下の66周年記念日は、言うまでもなく極めて重要です。3月に発生したフクシマ第一原発の核惨事は、「第3の原爆」として日本の民衆の生を再び破壊していることに、私の心は締め付けられます。子供たちや親たち、労働者や傷つきやすく罪のない人々など日本の民衆は、想像すらできない恐るべき不正義に再び直面しています。
しかし皆さんは、沈黙などせず怒りと団結の中で立ち上がっています。

 

I am connected to you, not only by the birth of my Grandparents. We are connected in our conviction to join together in solidarity as brothers and sisters in struggle against those who oppress and silence us.  We are connected in our fighting together against a neoliberal corporate agenda that is profiting, controlling and even killing people.  I am honored to be with you in this.

私は、祖父の生地ということだけではなく、皆さんと強く結びついています。私たちを抑圧し沈黙させようとする者どもとの闘いにおいて、兄弟姉妹の絆をもってともに連帯するという確信において結びついています。民衆を搾取し、統制し殺しさえする新自由主義的資本の政策と対決し、共に闘うことで結びついています。
このメッセージを送ることで、皆さんと共にあることを誇りに思います。

 

You are at ground zero.  The struggle against nuclear bombs is the struggle of Japan.  Please know that we join you in solidarity with deep feelings.  As coordinator of CAMS and now as an officer of UTLA-  I remember you with love and unity and join you in saying- "gambatte."

みなさんは今、爆心地にいます。核兵器に反対する闘いは、日本がリードすべき闘いです。心の底からの連帯で、皆さんと共に闘うことをお伝えします。
CAMS世話人として、そして今はUTLAの一役員として、愛と団結の中でみなさんのことを思い出しています。
そして最後に、“ガンバッテ”と言わしてください。
